After brushing and flossing, are you beginning to notice pink or even red in your toothpaste? Or perhaps you can’t seem to get rid of unwanted bad breath. Sadly, many suffer from gum disease, and whilst dentists can treat or, in some cases, cure gum disease, it can still cause trouble in everyday life for patients. Fortunately, our Casuarina Square Dental Care team prioritises our patients’ comfort and oral health by preventing, treating, and curing gum disease.

What Is Gum Disease?

When your gums display symptoms of inflammation or bleeding, this may indicate the presence of infection, commonly caused by plaque buildup. Depending on the degree of infection and length of time present, we see gum disease in two forms:

  • Gingivitis: A curable form of gum disease, patients may experience swelling in the gums, slight bleeding while brushing and flossing, or bad breath
  • Periodontitis: If an infection stays in the gums for too long without proper cleaning, patients may experience further symptoms as the gums weaken, causing further damage to oral health. Although no cure currently exists for periodontitis, our experienced dentists can successfully treat this form of gum disease and keep symptoms in check with proper cleaning.

Protect Your Oral Health by Treating Gum Disease

Although some may feel concerned about a gingivitis or periodontitis diagnosis, our Casuarina Square Dental Care team can easily treat any worrying symptoms or discomfort! Some common gum disease treatments include:

  • Cleaning your teeth regularly at home (twice daily)
  • Scheduling cleanings with a dentist
  • Scaling and root planing (these procedures remove plaque and tartar)
  • Antibiotics or toothpaste that fight infection

Some patients may find that lifestyle and dietary changes such as avoiding tobacco products and eating teeth-friendly foods can yield massive improvements to their oral health.
