Will teeth whitening cause sensitivity?

The answer to this question depends on various factors, including the whitening method and individual sensitivity levels.

1. In-Chair Teeth Whitening

Some individuals may experience temporary tooth sensitivity after an in-chair session. Still, this sensitivity is usually short-lived and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers or sensitivity toothpaste.

2. At-Home Teeth Whitening Kits

At-home teeth whitening kits are milder than in-chair treatments. They may still cause some sensitivity, but it's often less intense and of shorter duration.

3. Individual Sensitivity

Some people have naturally sensitive teeth, making them more prone to discomfort during and after teeth whitening. Others may experience little to no sensitivity at all.

4. Managing Sensitivity

If you're concerned about sensitivity, you can take steps to minimise it. Using toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth before and after whitening can help. It's also advisable to consult with your dentist to address any existing dental issues.

5. Temporary Sensitivity

It's important to note that any sensitivity experienced after teeth whitening is usually temporary. It should subside within a few days to a week.
